WEAPONS |

It is the realm of Lieutenant Malcolm Reed. When he is not on the bridge, il spends his time in developping and improving new weapons for the security of the Enterprise. The ship is equipped with various items, from phase pistol to torpedoes. The armory is the place where he developped in 2152 the 1st force field ("Vox Sola", season 1). We all know the large range of their applications, and it is the kind of invention Starfleet will never be able to avoid (especially for TV budget reasons). It is also the place where he adaptated phase cannons ("Silent Ennemy", season 2). Surely, the little rooms on the lower decks of the ship have been the witnesses of the redaction of the major part of the security protocole manual that will become THE Starfleet standard. ("Dead Stop", season 2).
 Torpedoes, looking like those of 20th century submarines, are armed in armory and automatically formarded to one of the 4 forward launch tubes. Data available on the ship don't tell us, but one can suppose a second equivalent room is located on the deck, on the back of pods launch bay. In 2153, after the terrible attack of the Xindis in Florida and Cuba, first photon torpedoes were tested onboard the NX-01 during its search mission in the Delphic Expanse.

Quatre canons phasiques sont prévus initialement sur le pourtour inférieur de la soucoupe du NX-01. Mais 1 seul était fonctionnel au lancement en 2151, ce qui faillit provoquer un drame lorsque le vaisseau fut attaqué par un ennemi inconnu la 1e année ("Silent Ennemy"). Heureusement, Reed et son équipe hors pair sont parvenus à installer les autres et même à en augmenter provisoirement la puissance.

PODS LAUNCH BAY | |

Here is the lower deck of pods launch bay. The picture presented here displays it empty, but 2 pods are normally parked side by side in normal situation. At the center is located the top of the grappling magnetic arm, that helps to the launch and recovery of a pod.
Just below the 2 pods, 2 massive doors close the bay. They assure pressurisation inside, only way to do that at that time in Starfleet's ships.

LOWER OBSERVATION DECK | |
It is located just in front of the launch bay doors and is used at least as a view port for the doors, and in better case as an astronomic observatory for observing phenomenom below the ship, invisible to the upper deck observatory.
