In the lack of tractor beams, whom Vulcans don't want to share the technology with Humans, the NX-01 must use electromagnetic grapplers for the recovery of its pods or catching of close targets. Two grapplers are available with hundreds of meters long hard tense cables ("Breaking the Ice", season 1), surely made in fulleren tubes that can support the tension of its own cable on tens of thousand kilometers long.
